Keratoconus

Diagnosis and management of progressive corneal thinning and irregular corneal shape

Keratoconus changes the shape of the cornea and can cause blurred or distorted vision. Care may include monitoring, glasses, specialty contact lenses, corneal cross-linking evaluation, or surgery in advanced cases

When it may be considered

  • Increasing astigmatism or frequent prescription changes
  • Distorted vision that is not fully corrected with glasses
  • Family history or previous diagnosis of keratoconus

Visit notes

  • Corneal topography or tomography is important for diagnosis and monitoring
  • Early detection helps protect vision and guide treatment timing
